reading
Students are about to finish our unit on dramas and play writing! We have had the opportunity to read many different plays and participate in interactive reader's theater for our unit on dramas. Students are currently taking what they have learned through our reading unit and applying it to writing in order to write and publish their own play! As we continue on the our 3rd unit we will be moving into non-fiction texts.
Students should be completing their reading log daily, including the weekends. The expectation is that all fifth grade students are reading AT LEAST 20 minutes daily! Try to make it fun by having students read to younger siblings, having a family library night, reading together as a family, or having a book talk about the books they are reading!
Writing
As we have been enjoying our drama and play writing unit, students have had the chance to become creative and publish their own plays! Students are finishing their drafts of their own play and will have the opportunity to edit and revise in order to create their own drama! We hope to revisit our plays later in the year after students have completed an art project with the art teacher to design masks and props for having a play production! As we move into unit 3 students will have a focus on non-fiction writing and reading.
