Our school is now a magnet school with the focus of Global Citizenship! As part of our global citizenship focus each classroom has been assigned a country to study and learn about through out the year. This year our country of focus will be Egypt. Students will learn about the history, culture, and traditions of the country during marking period one and advance their learning as the year goes on to learn about more complex issues within Egypt, and Africa as a whole to discuss global issues and think critically about the world we live in. Our first marking period project will be a multi-sensory project in which we research different artifacts and time periods in Egypt, write scripts and create informative video presentations on those artifacts, then go on an archaeological adventure to discover the artifacts other students have created! Check back at the end of the quarter to see a compilation of our videos and learn about the history and culture of Egypt with us! For the second marking period we are focusing our attention on a global issue that is affecting our country of study, Egypt. In this unit we will be working to recognize global issues, brainstorm solutions, and become more aware of the world and issues surrounding the different communities that make up the world with a focus on New Haven and Egypt.
